New to Psychedelic Therapy?

If you're exploring psychedelic therapy or psilocybin therapy for the first time, it's natural to have questions. These are some of the conversations I have most often with new clients.

Will I lose control during a psilocybin session?

This is one of my most common questions and the answer is, no. Most people remain aware that they're in a healing center and know they're participating in a guided psilocybin session. While emotions, thoughts, and perception can shift significantly, you're not unconscious or asleep. My role isn't to direct your experience—it's to provide a calm, grounded presence while supporting your safety throughout the journey. Every experience is different, but many people are surprised by how aware they remain.

I've never taken psychedelics before. Is that okay?

Absolutely. Many of the people I work with have never had any experience with psychedelics. Preparation sessions are designed to answer your questions, discuss your intentions, and help you understand what to expect before the day of your journey. You don't need previous experience—only curiosity and a willingness to explore whether this work feels right for you.

What can psilocybin therapy help with?

People seek psychedelic therapy for many different reasons. Some are navigating depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, or major life transitions. Others aren't looking to "fix" a diagnosis—they're searching for greater clarity, meaning, self-understanding, or a deeper connection with themselves. Every person's intentions are unique, and our preparation sessions help determine whether this approach is appropriate for your situation.

Is psilocybin therapy legal in Colorado?

Yes. Colorado has created a regulated Natural Medicine program that allows licensed facilitators to provide psilocybin services in approved healing centers. Sessions take place within licensed facilities that follow state regulations designed to support safety, preparation, and integration.

How do I know if this is right for me?

The best way to find out is through conversation, not commitment. A consultation gives us an opportunity to discuss your goals, answer your questions, review your health history, and determine whether this work is appropriate for you. Sometimes the outcome is that psilocybin feels like a good fit. Sometimes it's not. My goal is never to convince you—it's to help you make an informed decision.

How the Psilocybin Process Works.

Every psilocybin experience is unique—but healing doesn't happen in isolation. Your journey is supported at every step, from the first conversation to full post-journey integration.

Every facilitator approaches this work a little differently. While the structure of preparation, session, and integration is similar across Colorado's regulated program, my background in Rolfing Structural Integration has shaped the way I support people throughout the process.

Why the Body Matters

Healing doesn't happen only in the mind.

Over the past sixteen years I've learned that our bodies often tell stories our minds have forgotten. Chronic stress, trauma, injury, and emotion all leave physical patterns behind. I bring that understanding into every psilocybin session. That experience shapes how I facilitate psilocybin work today.

While many approaches focus primarily on thoughts and emotions, I also pay attention to the nervous system, breathing, posture, physical tension, and the subtle ways your body communicates throughout the journey.

I don't believe healing comes from telling you what your experience means. My role is to create a safe, grounded space where your own insights can emerge naturally.

Many people discover that lasting change isn't simply about thinking differently, it's about reconnecting with themselves through both mind and body.

  • Scott, through his psychedelic therapy work, has helped me work through deeply engrained personal challenges and emotions that have haunted me for years and lead to bad habits. I have overcome these known and unconscious demons and have revived my life with a new mindset and “heart-set” that has eliminated negative habits and directed me on a path of life appreciation, joy and internal clarity.

  • I recently had the opportunity to experience my first psilocybin journey with Scott as my facilitator. The decision to journey was made with a lot of consideration and some nervousness on my part. It turned out to be life changing in such a positive way! This would not have been possible without Scott’s knowledge, compassion, and guidance. He was able to answer all my questions and gently guide me to examine my goals and motivation. I am so grateful to him for being exactly who I needed to feel comfortable and confident before, during, and after the process. His dedication to helping others experience healing is an obvious passion for him. I can whole heartedly recommend!

  • Scott Burd is a respectful facilitator. He respects the medicine. He respects people. He understands that the people who choose to work with him on part of their journey must lead in the most significant aspects of that journey. Scott understands that his role is not to teach a person what they need to do nor to do anything to them - beyond help them plan and experience a safe encounter with the medicine.
